Two U10 teams travelled to Bryansford Saturday morning 12th August to compete in their annual Michael Hanley U10 tournament (p5/p6) where 26 teams across the province attended. Our Gaels progressed to the semi final of the cup playing some excellent football but were narrowly beaten by a strong Carrickcruppen side. Our Ogs competed in the plate section (exclusively for p5s) and progressed from the group to overcome a nippy Castlewellan team in the quarter final although we ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next up the semi final was a much fancied Mayobridge team – the game was point for point until the final whistle ending all square at full time. Extra time saw both teams exchanging equal scored but still the sides couldn’t be separated at the end. Finally in sudden death Clonduff defended in numbers and moved the ball up the field at speed to put the ball straight over the black spot – game Clonduff. In the final they faced Ballyholland, a group who repeatedly pipped Clonduff last year at U8 level. The Yella lads, however, powered on in the final hitting score after score to win 0-5 to 0-1. Superb effort from a great group of P5s who are all still U10 next year.
Get well soon to Darragh Fitzpatrick who fractured his arm last week – he is a huge miss but no doubt we will see him at training soon when he’s fit and ready!
