The U14 Footballers had an early start on Saturday morning (30th April) for their trip away to Fintona’s inaugural tournament, which consisted of teams from all over Ulster. In the first match against Truagh Gaels (Monaghan) Clonduff played some superb first time football to win 3-2 to no score, Laurence Brannigan driving home a couple of goals and Charlie Brown sticking over the points. In the next two games the boys fought hard and despite being beaten the still played free flowing football and were very unlucky. The Shield semi final was a one way affair, and the whole panel got a run out and every man going on was as good as the man coming off!
In preparation for the final game against Moy our Health and Wellbeing Officer Attracta Brown, took the boys for a bit of pitch side yoga and got them stretched and relaxed and focused for the upcoming game and it paid off because the boys started the game full of confidence and grit. It was a very tight, tense affair – the team had to dig deep and were really up against a strong team. However, they kept calm and just took their scores. This obviously frustrated the opposition to such an extent that they started to resort to underhand tactics but the Yellas refused to be intimidated and every one of them got stuck together and backed each other up. Clonduff won by 6 pts Paudraig Clancy got player of the tournament with an absolute stormer of a final. The 18 boys that were there and our mascot Eddie, put on wonderful display of football all day and represented the club brilliantly.
