Clonduff started strongly and were soon 1-1 up but with both defences on top scores were hard to come by but the Yellas led 2-2 to 0-2 at the break having played with the advantage of a strong breeze. Would it be enough?
Rostrevor started the second half strongly but it was the home side that scored two goal and going into the last eight minutes Clonduff led 4-3 to 0-5 – game over? Not likely! The Clonduff goalkeeper Shannon O’Reilly was in sparkling form and brought of numerous point blank saves but Rostrevor got two chances in very quick succession and fired to the back of the net and then a point to leave just a goal in it. The Clonduff backs re-grouped and held on to collect the league title. It is unfair to pick out any single player but it would be remiss not to single out the immense contribution of Shannon in the Clonduff goals – an outstanding performance.
Many thanks to the supporters from both sides who turned out in big numbers for the game. Thanks also to the Clonduff parents for providing the sandwiches and serving the tea to both sets of players and supporters, washing and cleaning up after the game. Well done everyone particularly the mentors John Anthony Gribben, Niall Rafferty and assistants Bronagh O’Reilly and Joeleen Branagan
