VHI CUL CAMP 2009

On a very wet Monday morning, 3rd August 2009, 187 children aged 4-14 turned up at Clonduff Park for the now well-established VHI sponsored Cúl Camp. Fortunately it was the only wet day of the week by the end of which the sun screen was in big demand and with more children joining in there were 195 children in total, including some youngsters who were on their second camp this summer – either a Cúl Camp in another club or the Campa Chormaic which was run in Castlewellan during July.
In administering the Cúl Camps in 2009, Down County Board decided to admit 4-6 year olds at a reduced cost and instead of having 4 hours in the camp, these little Gaels had a magnificent two hours each morning. Local camps are established in such a way that youngsters play with their own age groups in both Football (boys and girls) and Camogie/Hurling.
The Cúl Camp was co-ordinated by Clonduff Assistant Youth Officer Teresa Carr and Club Secretary Anita Brannigan, ably assisted by Marie Walls (Club Treasurer) and Patricia McGreevy and was facilitated by Down County Schools coaches Ciarán Murtagh and Benny Coulter but many of the coaches employed were young men and women who are actually playing members of Clonduff.
