Three teams were entered from the Clonduff U10 squad, A, B and C in Warrenpoint’s 11-a-side tournament on Sunday 16th October 2011.
After previously being cancelled twice due to adverse weather conditions, the sun shone on the young players as they battled through their games. The A team were entered into to the Cup tournament. Playing against Warrenpoint A, Burren A, Mayobridge A, Carrickruppen A and Ballyholland A the Clonduff A team lost only one of their qualifying games to Mayobridge in a tightly competed match. This could have been due to a late night had by the team after supporting their heroes of Clonduff Senior footballers in the Championship Final.
The Clonduff A team met with Warrenpoint A in the semi-final beating the side 0-5 to 0-3. They went on to meet Ballyholland A in the final winning the game comfortably 1-5 to 0-3. The player of the tournament came from this game in the guise of Shane Parr who played to his full potential throughout all the games played.
The Clonduff B team played outstandingly winning all of their preliminary games against Ballyholland B, Burren B, Mayobridge B and Warrenpoint B. They went into the final facing opponents Warrenpoint B, the Clonduff side winning comfortably 3-8 to 0-0. This is the second year running the Clonduff B side attained the Plate.
The Clonduff C side played outstanding winning their first game against the Warrenpoint B team 1-0 to 0-1. They held tight and unfortunately lost their other games in the Plate section.
A great day was had and many thanks to the Warrenpoint Club for their hospitality and to the children’s parents for having them presented so well.
With thanks Paul Close, Patricia Brown, Shereen Lyness-Feenan and P J McGreevy pictured above with the U10 squad.
