WEDDING OF THE YEAR – CLONDUFF CAMOGIE STYLE

On Saturday evening 8th February a hearty crowd of Clonduff and Mayobridge patrons celebrated the ‘Fake Wedding’ of Mayobridge’s finest son and Clonduff’s golden girl. It was the joining together of the two oldest Clubs in Down and two families steeped in GAA tradition. All club rivalry was put aside for the celebrations (well for most of it anyway).
The bride was fashionably late and if the Camogie Club had had their way she may have been a no-show altogether; Chairperson Guinevra McGilligan tried her best to dissuade the impatient bride but to no avail. After the pre-nup was signed proceedings got under way by Burren’s Fr Fake Rooney – which made for an interesting sermon!
The bridesmaids and flower girls were stunning and equally matched by the handsome groom’s party; the style and hats from invited guests were like nothing Hilltown has witnessed in many years.
The reception was lively and the speeches memorable with the fathers of the bride and groom (Ross and Tom) making impromptu appearances. There were video messages from none other than the Gooch in Kerry, Moya in London, John Morgan in Australia and from an Ex of Thomas’ (somewhere in Eastern Europe or the Middle East).
After the reception guests, who travelled from near and far, danced the night away to DJ Mini Macs. The happy couple are currently homeless and looking for suitable accommodation the Clonduff side of the seven bends but as they head off on their honeymoon to Bora Bora, they can ‘cross that bridge’ when they come to it.
Clonduff Camogie club would like to thank all those people who helped to make this a memorable night, in particular to Thomas and Fionnuala……..congratulations!!!!
